Designer Mystery BOM

I can't exactly claim this as a finish, but it's as finished as it's going to get for the time being.  These are the blocks from the 2013 Designer Mystery BOM series from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I managed to keep up with the monthly blocks, but then fell behind with the sashing and completing the quilt top.  Well.... the top is finally completed.

The FQS is very generous with the fabrics that they include with their BOM packages....generous enough that I was able to do my sashing and corner stones with leftover fabric.  I still have plenty of fabrics left, but they are smaller pieces and will be used in my general stash.  I did have to buy the red border and outer yellow border.

As always, these pictures are not the best.  The colors are bold and bright, not washed out.  In fact, I just fell in love with these fabrics and that's why I first joined the BOM.  The blocks were a mystery, but I love them too because they are all so different.

The first row is made up of baskets, the second row contains stars, the third row is full of houses and the last row has flowers.  I really loved making these blocks and I'm glad to see them sewn together.

Now my little flimsie will go into the "needs to be quilted" bin.... and this contains many tops.  I get everything pieced and then shy away from the quilting.  I'm getting better with smaller quilts, but the larger ones still scare me.  That's a goal I'm working on.... tackling the larger quilts.  I'll get there.......

I focused on my BOM's this week and finished all three.  The first two are the BOM's from Sew Lux Fabric..... same pattern, two color ways.  The corners were paper pieced so these blocks went together really quickly.  The background fabric is white, even though it seems to have a blue cast on my monitor.

This block is from The Fat Quarter Shop.  This is the 3rd block in this series and now I'm sure that this is going to be a basket quilt.  So far, all three basket blocks also share that blue square in the center.  Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts designed this block.  I just love these blocks!

Here's the second block in the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BOM.  Since this is also the second basket block, two for two, I'm seeing a potential pattern.  It might be too soon to call, but I'd be really happy with a basket quilt made out of these great fabrics.  We'll see what next month brings!

I'm on a roll...... here's Block #1 in the newest Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BOM!  This is the first in the new series of 12, the June block.  It may be almost the end of June, but I'm still, for this moment in time, caught up.  I love the Avalon fabric line and I thought this was a really nice basket pattern.  OK..... bring on the July block!

I haven't had much to post around here lately, but here are a couple of BOM's to show.  At least I've managed to make a few simple blocks.

I just joined the Sew Lux Fabric BOM club.  The link is on my side bar too.  It's their first BOM club and you could join with fabric kits, or just the PDF patterns.  Well..... I just couldn't decide which fabric line I liked best, so I joined two BOM's!  (I did use some restraint.... there is a third fabric line to choose from too....PB & J!)  This block was made with Happy Go Lucky fabric.  I just love the bright colors.

Here's the same block pattern, using Honey, Honey fabric.  So far, I like the first one the best.

This BOM fabric just came in the mail Friday and is the 2013 Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BOM.  I joined this club last year, as well, but have not finished all of the blocks.  I'm going to make a point of getting last year's blocks done before starting this new BOM series..... at least that's the plan!

Hope you'll join me in one or more of these BOM clubs..... it's always a nice surprise to find the next BOM kit in your mailbox each month!

Just wanted to give you a heads up that the 2013 Designer Mystery Block of the Month program offered by The Fat Quarter Shop will be starting soon.

I'm a HUGE fan of this BOM series and I've blogged about it before.  The block design is the "mystery" part of this BOM series.  They tell you the fabric used in the series, so you will know if you will want to join in....no mystery there.  The 2013 fabrics will be Avalon by Fig Tree for Moda.

The price is reasonable....$11.99 per month, which includes shipping....this is in the US.  You receive the block pattern of the month along with the fabric required to make the block.  And this is the best part.....they include extra fabric and I have always been able to make two blocks out of every kit.  Now that's a bargain!  (Don't you hate BOM's where you have to buy more fabric if you make an error in cutting..... and maybe just a tiny error.... where they have included only the minimum amount of fabric required to make the block.... grrrrr.....)

So.... click on the Fat Quarter Shop link.... go to the clubs and programs..... and sign up for this BOM.  While you're there, I'm sure you'll find other BOM's that will interest you.

Now I need to get some 2012 BOM's finished.  I think I'm three months behind right now!
