Wicked Blog Hop

Welcome to my haunted house!
Please enter if you dare!

Don't you just love Halloween and all of the wacky characters that surface on October 31st?!  I'm such a fan of rats, bats, cats, spiders and other creatures that go bump in the night.

I wasn't sure what I was going to make until I saw a magazine that had pictured a cake decorated with a Ouija board design on the top.  Perfect theme for the Wicked blog hop!  I searched for some free Ouija board clip art and printed it on fabric.  I knew that it was going to be a runner and started with the Ouija board fabric and built my runner around the three boards, designing as I went along.

Here's the finished runner.  It's pretty big.... 55" x 17" and covers the full length of my table with a little hangover on each end.  I had to stand on a lawn chair to get the full width in the shot.

My table is ready for visitors.  The candles are lit and the goblins are welcome!

And with the lights off, it's even kind of cozy.....

Here's a close up of the Ouija board fabric.  This is the same Ouija board that you can still buy in the game departments today and it's the one I had growing up.... I loved using them at sleep overs, even though we didn't believe that the cursor was moving by any other method than our own giggly guidance.

I used the  Magic binding technique again on this runner.  I cannot tell you how much I love this technique and how quickly I can finish binding a quilt or project. I love the look of the flanged edge and the fact that there is NO hand sewing.  Here's the top side of the finished runner.....

Here's the backside of the runner showing the extra line of stitching that this binding technique makes.  I have no objection to having that extra line next to the binding.

I also like to decorate Sewphie for different holidays.  I use cling on's that are removable and don't leave a mark or residue.

You know I had to put a picture of Oliver in this post somewhere.  ;)  Here he is modeling his new costume..... a hamburger.  He's not thrilled because it isn't a scary costume.... I mean, who's afraid of a hamburger!?

I put him on the table to explore the new runner and the little cemetery.  Not being used to having an extra 4" of girth, he quickly annihilated the cemetery, knocking most of it over as he made his way through the skulls and goodies, sniffing and checking things out.  I think he liked this because he was now kind of scary as a GODZILLA Hamburger, destroying order and causing mayhem!

Still with me?...... Here's another giveaway for you.  I picked up  a few Halloween items at Target ...two can cozy's and some coasters..... and also have three pieces of fabric.... the fabric that I used in my table runner.  The pieces are a little bigger than FQ's.  Just leave a comment and you will be entered for a random draw on November 1st.

I hope you have enjoyed your visit and will return soon.  Now it's time for you to visit the other wicked blogs and see what they have conjured  up for you! Here's the gruesome lineup for today;

Gracie Oliver Arts (you are here...BOO!)
I Piece 2-Mary
            The Distracted Domestic

And where would my manners be if I didn't extend my thank you to Madame Samm, head blogger organizer extraordinaire, and Wendy, our wicked hostess for this hop!   Thank you both for the time and effort that goes into making a successful blog hop!! May your lives be overflowing with treats!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

  5. I love your Ouija Board table runner, and your little graveyard. Halloween is so much fun to decorate for. I had tons of decorations bought and mad over the years, but it was stolen. I am still sad about it. I would be quite happy if I won your giveaway, especially since my birthday is 4 days after your drawing. 8-) I'm going to start following you now that I've found you through the Blog Hop!

  6. Oliver is very tolerant! Love the idea of him being a hamburger. I'll have to research on your binding technique.

  7. Your tablerunner looks great! Very well done. I don't know if I would describe your cemitary as cosy, though.....Spooky comes to mind. So does creepy..... Your Oliver made me smile. My cat would destroy me and then the house (probably in that order) if I would try to put a costume on her! Thank you.

  8. Really like your table runner but love Oliver. I have a little dog, he is so daft that if I dressed him as a hamburger he would try to eat himself ! I have been to check out the piped effect binding and it is just what I need for a set of cushion covers that I am making.

  9. Your table runner is awesome. I used to love to Ouija board. Every question we had as a young teenager, we asked the Ouija! :) How do you print on fabric? I've never even thought of it. I'm still figuring out how to applique? Thank you for the giveaway and thank you for sharing your creation with us!

  23. Is there a secret to printing fabric. Won't it wash out if you have to wash the table runner? Never have done that before. Just wondering. It is adorable especially with the lights on in the evenings. Love the idea of decorating your sewing machine. Very creative.

  24. Jeanie your table runner is so great! How creative of you! I like that photo of the runner with the candles...so spooky!!!! Oh I like the name of your sewing machine too, lol. My friend has a daughter named Sophie, but your Sewphie is a perfect name for your Janome, lol. I should name my machines too, but I have never thought of any names that I like. Well you have me thinking now. I also like your decorations for Sewphie too, especially the cat!

  25. Wow, what a "Wicked" table. I love it! But O don't know how you could gat Oliver to sit with a costume on and take his picture. My cat runs away from me when I pick up my phone or camera to take a picture. Too cute!

  29. Ye gads! I haven't seen a Ouija board in years. Your table runner idea is vey cute and you're right in the spirit with your other projects. I have 3 feline helpers but I doubt they'd let me dress them up. Oliver doesn't look too happy. Our gray tabby with the white tuxedo recently had an ear infection which the vet discovered. When we gave him medicine he showed his displeasure by closing his ears-they were actually laying down making him look like Yoda! So he doesn't need a Halloween costume! Thanks for sharing.

  30. Wow does that bring back memories. Love your Ouija board fabric! Perfect with your decorations too!

  31. What a wicked table setting. Love the technique on the binding.

  32. WTG Jeanie! All kinds of fun things to see and read about. Your runner made a wonderful display even with the kitty set to destroy mode. They are so inquisitive when something new is added to the home. Mine about knocked over the bedside lamp last night going after either my sleep mask or the flashlight. Strings and sticks do it for him.

  33. I love the cozy looking photo (I think it's creepy--perfect for Halloween) of your very wickedly awesome runner! I use that magic binding all the time since I really, really do not like hand stitching my binding. My dogs are jealous now that they've seen that Oliver has a costume. Guess I better go shopping at the pet store. :O)

  34. Hahaha, I love that you dress up your sewing machine, and your cat is incredible in that he's actually wearing the costume! If we put anything on our family cat, she hunkers down and won't move, and that includes just a collar. I enjoy your lights off picture, it totally captured the essence of the Ouija board. Thank you for sharing your stories!

  43. Wonderfully creative idea! We used to play the game in my friend's attic when I was a kid and I remember our silly giggling, too. Our older brothers used to get in on the act by trying to scare us, but it just added to the giggles. I love the way you printed your own fabric for your creation. Please tell OliveBurger that he looks cute ... er ... scary ... in his costume and thank him for adding to the fun. Thanks for the chance to win the fabric extras. Happy Halloween! ... :) Pat

  67. Oh what fun! I had two older brothers and one was out of the house before I had a Ouija board. So I had no one to play with me. I have a cousin who is just a couple of months older. She had one at her birthday slumber party and those of us who could get it to move, played and played with it all night. I think we were in 8th grade and the most common question was who was ? going to marry. I've seen a few of the gals on Facebook lately and wonder if any of the others remember that night. I have no idea what her mom was doing that night while we were all Ouijaing the night away. Your table runner is fun, fun, fun. I bet it brings back lots of memories for many of us. You did an amazing job. Thanks for participating, being a creative inspiration, and taking me down memory lane.
