Mug Rug Swap

Fort Worth Fabric Studio announced a spring mug rug swap a few months ago.  I thought it would be a fun swap to participate in... a quick project and something I'd have time to make without putting myself in a bind so I signed up.  We were to make one mug rug and were assigned a partner to make and send a mug rug to.

I decided to make two mug rugs, as it seems like the times that I'm using a mug rug, I'm usually sharing a cup of coffee with a friend and it's nice to have a spare mug rug to share.

So here they are.  I didn't know anything about my swap partner, so I just focused on happy, spring fabrics.  I paper pieced the baskets on both mats.  I forgot to measure these before I mailed them, but I'm guessing they were about 6" x 12"...or something like that.

These could be reversed... pretty simple and clean on the backside.  To quilt these, I used a standard serpentine stitch on my machine and just made it as wide as the stitch adjustment would allow.

I enclosed a pack of lady bug buttons and some spring-ish note cards.  There was also an initial button but I forgot to include it in the photo.

Now, here's the not-so-great part.  I haven't heard anything from my swap partner.  Not even a quick email acknowledging that she received these mug rugs.  It makes me think that she didn't like them at all.  :(  I also have not received a mug rug from whom ever was assigned my name....this would not be the same person that I sent my mug rugs to.  You always take a risk when you join a swap.  I will say that this was an international swap and it is possible that my mug rug will yet arrive and is swimming around in the postal system somewhere.  I'll post an update if this happens.  I've been terribly disappointed with some swaps before and I have also been extremely thrilled..... you just never know!

  1. I am hoping that you will be thrilled with whatever you get...the package will be coming (my fingers are crossed for you)!! Do you know for certain that your partner received her package from you?? Does she have a blog you could leave a comment on?? Even if you don't like a gift, it is always appropriate to send a thank you note! This is why I don't participate in swaps...burned too often.

  2. I'm in this swap too....you were not my partner (just sew you know) LOL my partner is in Canada and the package is STILL in customs ! I should have sent it much earlier. My fault :/ Maybe yours will show up. I haven't heard when or what we're supposed to blog about....what we made or what we receive.

  3. I totally feel with you, Jeanie! My pretty Dresden Flower mug rug is posted on the link up, but my partner never took the time to thank me! I, on the otherhand, was totally shocked and surprised by my wonderful package from Dorothée in France!! She sent me so many wonderful things! I thanked her per email and sent to a small package in return. Unfortunately with no reply. Hmm...I mailed from Germany, so it must have arrived after two days. It would be a better world if people were more thankful!

  4. Hi Jeanie. I am sorry about your mu rug swap situation. But I wanted to bring up something else. You left me a comment on my blog posting about the mug rug I swapped and received, but I didn't get your comment in my email inbox or even in my spam box. I don't know what's going on, but I read about this on another blog recently and they said it is happening with people who use yahoo emails and that gmail emails it isn't a problem with. I can't remember what you use? But in case you are not getting responses back from your comments, you will know why. You weren't the only person commenting that this happened with, so something is definitely weird!!!

  8. Hi again Jeanie. I have a thought, I would love to make you a mug rug and send it to you. If you want certain colors, size, or motif let me know, If not I will just make something so you are completely surprised. Either way I would love to make and send you a mug rug. Email me back with your address, okay? Really and truly it would be my pleasure and you never know if other little goodies might jump into the envelope...so are you game?

  9. Hi Jeanie,

Your mug rugs are darling. I am sure your partner loved them! :) As far as the mug rug you are supposed to receive, I have contacted your partner and am waiting to hear back! We have a couple of mug rug angels, who will be sending out mug rug's to those who did not receive one. Please don't fret! You will be getting a mug rug! :) I hope you have a lovely day!

  11. Hi Jeanie,

I have just heard back from your partner and her husband has been in the hospital very sick, so she has not been able to complete the swap on time. We will have a mug rug Angel send you one – give us an extra week or so, since we had to switch some things up.

  12. The mug rugs you made and sent are very nice and the fact that you made two is so very sweet! So sorry your partner had some extenuating circumstances that prevented her from participating.
